HUA HIN is a paradise for travellers, ex-pats and locals alike

Hua Hin

Hua Hin Beach

Hua Hin is a seaside resort town in Thailand, about 200 kilometres south of Bangkok. In recent years, it has become a popular destination among both Thai and foreign tourists. The town is on the western coast of the Gulf of Thailand, and its long and sandy beachfront, including Hua Hin Beach, Suan Son Pradipat Beach, and Khao Takiab Beach, is one of its main attractions.

Royal Residence

In the early 1900s, King Rama VII used Hua Hin as a perfect retreat from the busy life of Bangkok. The town quickly became a favourite destination of the Thai royal family in the 1920s, and royal summer residences were built in the area of Cha-am up the road.

This is Mrigadayavan Palace, which is open to visitors today allowing an immersive experience into the history and architectural beauty of early 20th-century Thailand.

Designed by Italian architect Ercole Manfredi. The building is a series of teak wood connected by elevated walkways, designed to capture the sea breeze and provide relief from the heat.

Activities

Apart from its beautiful beaches and historical sites, Hua Hin has many activities and entertainment available. The town is known for its world-class golf courses and other outdoor sports like kiteboarding and wakeboarding. It is also a great place for those interested in exploring the local culture, with several temples, cooking classes and Muay Thai classes.

Markets

One of the most popular markets in Hua Hin is the Cicada Market, which is open on weekends and features the best of local and handmade goods that I've probably seen anywhere in Thailand!! Including clothing, jewellery, and artwork. Another popular market is the Tamarind Market, located next to Cicada Market, which is open every day and offers a similar range of products and also has live music and food and drink stalls. Its a must-see really!

Adventure

If you are travelling with children, you can enjoy many activities in Hua Hin and its surroundings. There is Black Mountain Water Park, which offers slides and pools as expected, and the Hua Hin Safari and Adventure Park is a lot of fun for kids and adults alike, you can see exotic animals and experience exciting adventures.

Another great option for a family day out is the Vana Nava Water Jungle, a water park that combines nature and technology to create a unique experience.

That cave

Many tours from Hua Hin will take you to Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park, where you find Phraya Nakhon Cave, which is one of Thailand's most incredible natural wonders. This cave is famous simply for being beautiful and the iconic Kuha Karuhas pavilion was built to honour King Chulalongkorn's visit in the 19th century. People often say the experience is a journey through a mystical world, with the sunlight filtering through the cave's openings, illuminating the pavilion in a heavenly glow (sounded poetic there didn't I). The cave is accessible via a challenging hike or a short boat ride followed by a trek so only attempt if you're able.

Soi Bintabaht

Soi Bintabaht, a vibrant walking street is a place of contrasts and colours. It's a haven for food lovers with Thai delicacies and international cuisines. For sports enthusiasts, the area is dotted with lively sports bars where fans gather to watch games. There is also wild nightlife here, Soi Bintabaht is also just a stone's throw away from the serene beach. This street gives everyone a different experience to everyone, some see the sleaze, some see the food.

Nightime varies massively to daytime.

Hire a car from Bangkok

When renting a car in Bangkok, make sure you have an international driving permit, as well as valid insurance coverage. Many international car rental companies have offices in Bangkok, and there are also local rental companies to choose from. Prices can vary depending on the type of vehicle and the length of the rental period.

Traffic: Bangkok is notorious for its traffic congestion, especially during rush hour. Driving in the city can be challenging and stressful, particularly if you are not used to the local driving customs. (Basically, Thailand is famous for terrible driving, drivers are unaware at best) Make sure you plan your route and give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination.

Taxis from airport

Sadly, if you're coming from the airport there are no direct buses from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Hua Hin, there are buses from the airport to Hua Hin with multiple stops though but if you don't want to do that, Holiday Taxis is a private bus service.
